Palm Oil Action

ACTION SUCCESS ALERT

KFC SWITCHING TO A HEALTHIER BLEND OF CANOLA-SUNFLOWER OIL FOR COOKING!

Palm oil costs the lives of ~50 endangered Orangutans every week and is a major cause of global warming. In South East Asia alone 300 soccer fields are deforested every hour for palm oil plantations. Unsuspecting consumers use palm oil everyday in food, cosmetic and bath products as it is often labeled as plain ‘vegetable oil’, and companies continue to source Palm Oil as a 'cheap and healthy' alternative.

It's not cheap OR healthy for Humans or for the Earth - help us demand zero Palm Oil use until we have independently verified sustainable Palm Oil plantations.

This type of consumer pressure has already created major changes in European Supermarkets!

Curious about what we are actually doing? See a clip of a recent action here.

The Palm Oil Action Group warmly invites you to be a part of a campaign during 2009 to:

1. Ensure the mandatory labeling of palm oil on all food stuffs and cosmetics in Australia;
2. Have KFC stop using palm oil as their cooking oil and Woolworths fully phase palm oil out of its Homebrand products (as it has been trying to do for more than two years - let's help them keep their sustainability promises!);
3. See a complete moratorium on clearing of land for new palm oil plantations; and
4. Have the Australian Government legislate that imported Palm Oil biofuel must not be complicit in forest destruction.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO ORGANISE AN ACTION?

2009 has so far seen a number of successful actions throughout Australia - the Palm Oil Action Group has indeed been spreading the word.

We have had some fantastic results: KFC have confirmed that they will be switching to a healthier alternative and Woolworths are taking the removal of Palm Oil from their Homebrand products more seriously than ever.

We still need to keep the pressure up however so please spread the word and get involved - we are on the look out for more passionate organisers.

If you would like to organise an Action anywhere in Australia please contact our Australian Campaign Coordinator, Anasuya Claff, on 0431 779 644 or at anasuya@palmoilaction.org.au.

REMEMBER: Palm Oil is not good for the Orangutans and it's not good for us! We have the power to change corporate buying habits - the choice is truly ours.
